Special Envoy for Climate Change participates in preparatory ministerial meeting in Cyprus

Nicosia, June 7 (BNA): Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, Chief Executive of the Supreme Council for Environment, Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Dainah, has affirmed the importance of regional and international cooperation to achieve tangible progress in weathering the pitfalls of climate change. This came during his participation in the preparatory ministerial meeting hosted by the Cypriot capital, Nicosia, in the presence of Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and a number of minsters of environment and climate as well as representatives from the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East countries. Dr. bin Dainah praised the initiative of the Republic of Cyprus to unify the regional efforts and boost environmental cooperation, stressing keenness of the Kingdom of Bahrain to back all the international efforts to protect the planet Earth from the effects of climate change. He pointed out the great importance accorded by the Kingdom of Bahrain to climate change thanks to the farsighted and strategic vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He also praised the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and the directives of Personal Representative of HM the King, President of the Supreme Council for Environment, His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa. It is worth noting that the preparatory ministerial meeting, organised by the Republic of Cyprus, comes as a prelude to the summit of Heads of States on the Middle East Climate Change Initiative to be held next October in the Republic of Cyprus. It aims to speed up the efforts to confront the effects of climate change because of its paramount importance, especially after the report issued by the team of scientists in the initiative indicated that the region is more vulnerable to the effects of climate change compared to the rest of the world.
