BUILDING COLLAPSE: THIRD BODY EXTRICATED FROM RUBBLE




PETALING JAYA (Malaysia), May 29 (Bernama) -- The body of the third victim
found in the basement of the former Jaya Supermarket building here which
collapsed on Thursday, was extricated at 2pm Friday.

The victim, identified as Muhamad Maskur, an Indonesian national aged 31,
was found pinned under a concrete slab in the car park after the building
collapsed while several workers were carrying out demolition work on the
building at about 5pm Thursday.

Petaling Jaya OCPD ACP Arjunaidi Mohamed said the body of the third victim
which was found at 3.30am by a search and rescue team, was extricated and sent
to the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for post-mortem.

On Thursday, the bodies of Maskor, 28, and another yet to be identified body
was extricated at 6.50pm and 10.20pm respectively, while four more are believed
to have been trapped under the rubble.

Arjunaidi when met at the site of the tragedy said one or two more bodies
are believed to be near where the body of the third victim was found.

"Efforts are underway to extricate the remaining victims," he said.

Meanwhile, another worker, Suryano, 21, who escaped the tragedy, managed to
identify the victim as Muhamad Maskur who was his cousin brother, through the
shirt and shoe that he was wearing.

"We stayed together since coming to Malaysia nine months ago. We had just
started work about an hour before the collapse.

"During the incident, we were transferring iron rods from a lorry to the
basement when I heard a loud noise. I quickly ran out," he said.

My cousin brother was not so fortunate and I saw him being buried under the
rubble, he said.
