Foreign Ministry Undersecretary receives IOM Director for MENA region

Manama, Jun 14 (BNA): Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Political Affairs, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, received today, the Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa at the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Carmela Godeau. Dr. Shaikh Abdullah valued the constructive cooperation with the IOM, and the strong partnership with the United Nations and its specialized agencies in the areas of training, capacity-building and exchange of expertise, in a manner that enhances Bahrain’s status in combating trafficking in persons and protecting the rights of expatriate workers. He stressed compliance with modern legislative system and executive procedures that are consistent with Bahrain’s accession to international human rights conventions, and its support for the 2030 sustainable development goals. IOM Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa praised Bahrain’s achievements in the field of protecting and promoting the rights of migrant workers. She described Bahrain as a role model at the regional level in providing a legal and institutional environment to protect the rights of migrant workers and combat human trafficking, in line with human rights standards and international legislation. The meeting was attended by the Chief of Mission of IOM in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Mohamed El Zarkani and the Special Envoy of IOM to the Gulf countries, Hassan Abdel Moneim.
