QOC Hosts Meeting Between IOC, Representatives of Afghan Sports

Doha, June 17 (QNA) - The Qatar Olympic Committee hosted the second meeting between the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), and representatives of the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee and the General Directorate of physical Education and Sport of Afghanistan. The meeting highlighted steps to be taken to ensure Afghans are allowed to play sports and participate in sports tournaments, and mechanisms through which partners can support educational opportunities, especially for women and girls in Afghanistan. Representatives of the IOC and the OCA also discussed the support programs for athletes that were put forward during the previous periods, which paved the way for more coordination to benefit from the Olympic Solidarity Programs. The meeting was attended by IOC's director of Olympic Solidarity and National Olympic Committee (NOC) relations James Macleod, Director of the Asian Games Department at Olympic Council of Asia Haider Farman, President of the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee, Hafizullah Wali Rahimi, and Director of the General Directorate of physical Education and Sport in Afghanistan Nazar Mohammad Mutmaeen. HE QOC Secretary-General Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, and Director of Public Relations and International Cooperation at the QOC Hamad Al Obaidli, were also present. (QNA)
