PSA Highlights Most Prominent Statistical Changes in May

Doha, July 02 (QNA) - The new "Qatar; Monthly Statistics," a monthly statistics bulletin issued by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA), shed light on the most prominent economic, social, and financial changes in the country in May. One of the most prominent changes in this issue is the increase in total traffic violations at a monthly rate of 14.4 percent (compared to April 2022) and at an annual rate of 52.9 percent (compared to May 2021). The over-speeding (radar) violations registered the highest percentage, reaching 76 percent, followed by parking violations at 17 percent, while driving licenses violations recorded the lowest percentage, at 0.02 percent of the total traffic violations. Furthermore, among the most notable changes is that the total number of marriage contracts increased monthly by 40.4 percent (compared to April 2022), and annually by 10.6 percent (compared to May 2021). The percentage increased among non-Qatari males and females alike, reaching 43.9 percent for males and 56.5 percent for females (compared to April 2022). The demographic statistics revealed that the total population of Qatar has increased from 2.63 million during May 2021 to 2.85 million at end of May 2022. Regarding to Vital Statistics, 2065 live births have been registered during May 2022. Also, an increase in the total Qatari live births by 52.1 percent compared to last month. On the other hand, 204 deaths were recorded during the same period, a decrease of 6.4 percent compared to April 2022. Moreover, May 2022 has experienced a monthly increase by 40.4 and 39.5 percent in marriage contracts and divorce certificates respectively. The total number of marriage contracts was 344 contracts, whereas the total No. of divorces has reached 219 divorce cases. As for the Social Security statements, reached QR 79 Million in May 2022, for 14,456 beneficiaries, Recording a monthly increase of 1.0 percent for the value of social security and a monthly increase of 0.5 percent for the number of beneficiaries of Social Security. Total electricity consumption during May 2022 was 4,527.8 GWh attaining a monthly increase of 21.3 and an annual decrease of 0.4 percent. While the total water consumption has reached 57,275.3 thousand m3 during the same month attaining a monthly increase of 2.4 percent and an annual decrease of 0.3 percent. As for the Banking Sector, Total Broad Money Supply (M2) recorded about QR 656.5 Billion during May 2022, an annual increase of 7.3 percent compared with May 2021. On the other hand, cash equivalents; including Commercial Bank Deposits, attained for QR 967.2 Billion during May 2022. The figure has recorded an annual increase of 0.5 percent compared to May 2021, when deposits recorded approximately QR 962.2 Billion. Regarding the data of buildings permits issued, the total number of permits has reached 645 permits during May 2022, recording a monthly decrease of 4.7 percent and an annual increase of 85.3 percent. The total number of registered new vehicles during May 2022 has reached 6535 new vehicles. The figure showed a monthly decrease of 10.7 percent and an annual increase of 39.2 percent. Traffic accidents cases without counting the accidents without injuries, a total of 822 traffic cases were recorded during May 2022, showing a monthly increase of 18.3 percent and an annual increase by 60.9 percent. Light injuries are accounted for the vast majority of traffic accidents cases during the same month, with 90 percent, followed by severe injuries by 8 percent. However, 18 deaths were recorded, equivalent to only 2 percent of total traffic accidents cases. (QNA)
