FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022: Ecuador Representative Says Team Relishing Qatar Encounter

Doha, July 07 (QNA) - Representative of Ecuador's national team Sergio Quirelle dismissed any fears that his side would succumb to the pressure of playing hosts Qatar at the opening round of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. He was speaking at a FIFA workshop held in Doha for teams that qualified to the World Cup. He told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that it was a great honor for Ecuador to play the opening game, stressing that the occasion will see the players even more motivated to give their best. He added that he expects FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will be an amazing tournament after many years of preparation in an effort to bring out the event in the best way, and it is also a unique opportunity for everyone to be in a geographical area that has never hosted finals before, which means learning about a new culture. He acknowledged that Qatar are the favorites to win, given they beat Ecuador in a previous friendly back in 2018. He maintained however that the Ecuadorian team has changed significantly since then, which gives them a chance to get something from the match. He concluded his remarks to QNA by saying that Ecuador will look to use the next two international breaks to better prepare for the competition. (QNA)
