Qatar Chess Association U16 Tournament Concludes with 40 Players Participating

Doha, July 24 (QNA) - The QCA Chess Tournament U16 2022, organized by the Qatar Chess Association (QCA), concluded with the participation of 40 male and female players. The tournament was held according to the Swiss system; 10 minutes + 0 seconds in five rounds. Indian player Alan Byju landed first place with five points, ahead of his compatriots Jayaditya Gantayet and Pranav Pradeep Nair who came in second and third places. The best Qatari player title went to Taleb Dahman. Indian Krishna Tesjaswi came first in the U-10 category, whilst on the other, Asma Alhammadi was honored for being the youngest Qatari participant in the tournament. For his part, QCA General Secretary Yousuf Mohammed Al Mutawa expressed his happiness with the way the tournament went, noting that the competitors’ performance was outstanding. He further added, the association is pleased with the tournament’s success and the players' keenness to participate in the fierce competitions, as the competitors’ points were very close, noting that QCA’s objective is to refine talents, and to focus on young players in order to train a ready generation able to compete in future tournaments and competitions. Al Mutawa added that such tournaments are held monthly with the participation of players from the QCA Training Center. Furthermore, the General Secretary said that they are confident that through organizing these tournaments, new talents are discovered and added to the Qatari chess scene, who can participate in the various international forums. Finally Al Mutawa pointed out that chess is one of the games that require intelligence and focus, therefore taking part in tournaments from a young age contribute to the development of skills and intellectual abilities.
