Euro-2 ecological standard to be introduced on 15th of July

Astana, June 02, 2009 (Khabar) - But new rule doesn’t concern the cars that were taken to the country before this date. The Euro-2 ecological standard is to be introduced in Kazakhstan on the 15th of July though the new rule will not affect vehicles imported to Kazakhstan before this date. Such a statement was made by the Minister for Transport and Communication of the Republic at a meeting in the country’s lower house, the Majilis. Abelgazy Kusainov reassured drivers that previously imported cars can be used until they are worn out completely. The Minister also stated the new regulation will also affect other spheres apart from vehicles. Starting from the 1st of January 2010, all fuel in the country should also meet the Euro-2 standard. The Minister also said a few words about the Republic’s civil aviation. Starting from March next year, close to 50 aircraft will not be allowed to fly as they do not meet world technical standards. However, the country’s aviation fleet was expanded last year as Air Astana bought 5 modern airliners with another two to be bought in 2010. There is also good news for the disabled and World War II veterans.

Abelgazy Kusainov, minister for transport and communication of RK:
- We have recently taken some measures according to which alcoholic drinks and food are not served on flights which last less than 90 minutes. However, disabled people and World War II veterans now have the right to fly free of charge while their attendants will get a 50% discount.
