Bahraini athletes shine at Islamic Solidarity Games

Konya, Aug. 13 (BNA): Bahraini athletes shone again yesterday at the fifth Islamic Solidarity Games being held in Konya, Türkiye, winning two gold medals, two silvers and a bronze. On the concluding day of the athletics event, Winfred Yavi won the women’s 1,500m race, with the hosts’ Ekaterina Guliyev and Morocco’s Soukania Hajji, coming in second and third, respectively. Bahrain also struck gold in the women’s 4x400m relay, Gulf Daily News (GDN) reported. The national team athletes took second place in both the men’s and women’s 4x100m relays. In the men’s event, the Turkish team, consisting of Emre Zafer Barnes, Jak Ali Harvey, Kayhan Özer and Ramil Guliyev, broke the Games Record with a time of 38.74 seconds, with Bahrain second in a time of 39.01s and Oman third in 39.2s. The Bahrain team consisting of Fatima Muabarak, Edidiorg Odiong, Aminat Yusuf Jamal and Hajar Al Khaldi took second place in the women’s 4x100m relay finishing the race in 44.11s behind the Gambia team who won in 43.83s, while Turkey took third place in 44.49s. Bahrain’s 4x400m men’s relay later added the bronze medal to take the kingdom’s total tally to 20 medals (9 gold, 7 silver, 4 bronze), which included the road cycling gold medal won by Ahmed Madan.
