Qatar National Team Wrap up Participation in 28th Edition of Abu Dhabi Chess Int'l Festival

Abu Dhabi, August 26 (QNA) - Qatar Chess National Team concluded Thursday their participation in the 28th edition of Abu Dhabi International Festival with participation from around 1000 male and female chess players from 54 countries. In the masters championship, International Master Hussein Aziz bagged four points from three victories and two draws. Rayyan Erfan, Abdullah Al Hamid, Saad Al Sulaiti claimed 5.5 points, five points and four points respectively in Open Chess Championship. In U-16 competitions, Qatar's Ibrahim Al Janahi bagged five points from three wins and four draws. Khalid Al Jamaat logged 4.5 points from four wins and a draw. Speaking to Qatar Nes Agency (QNA), President of Qatar Chess Federation Mohamed Al Madhahka expressed complacency with Qatar's results in the tournament that witnessed participation from top-seed players. He added that competing against high ranking players give Qatari players big experiences and elevate their rankings, especially for international masters. Al Madhahka stressed that their strategy focused on juniors to prepare a generation that could compete at the Arab and Asian levels, highlighting a recent QCF meetings that adopted plans for the national teams' particpations in Gulf, Arab and international championships.
