Malaysia's Petronas Looking at Various Techs to Electrify Offshore Platforms
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 (Bernama) -- Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) is looking at various technologies, including low wind speed turbine generators to electrify its offshore platforms.
Corporate Strategy senior vice-president, Mazuin Ismail said the national oil firm is looking at using low wind speed turbine generators to generate electricity on its platforms, adding that Petronas is willing to work with various parties on the matter.
“There are a lot of technologies and development that we have to push to make it work. One thing about Malaysia is that the wind speed is inconsistent.
“But are we considering it? Absolutely," he said at a panel session titled ‘Sustainable Energy-Low Carbon Development: Where are we now and the way forward’.
The session was held on the sidelines of the International Sustainable Energy Summit 2022 on Monday.
Mazuin was answering a question about whether Petronas and Sarawak Energy Bhd are working together to electrify some of the offshore platforms in east Malaysin state Sarawak amidst growing opportunities in the region.
