Common National Testing will start on June 4
Astana, June 03, 2009 (Khabar) - One more cheering piece of news for university entrants lies in the fact the duration of the test has been extended by 30 minutes. It will be held for 6 days and come to an end on the 10th of June. According to the education ministry, this will give school-graduates a chance to prepare better for the test. The test will be taken in the on-line mode so that not a single detail will escape the committee’s attention. This know-how has been introduced at the Technical University. The testing will be carried out in 7 lecture halls with IP cameras installed in them. Teachers and parents will have an opportunity to watch over the process of examination as there will be 7 rooms with large screens designed for this purpose. Thanks to these cameras it will be possible to discern anything down to notes on examination sheets.
Akkyz Mustafina, director, Information and Communication technologies centre, Kazakh National University:
- It will be possible to see if pupils are using exam cheat notes and if everything is going right and also to watch over the discipline of conducting the common national testing or inappropriate actions by examiners. So it all will be available for us to see.
This year, 108 672 school-graduates will undergo the Common National Testing (CNT). There will be 25 questions on 5 subjects and some of 150 000 test items have been corrected.
Isatay Sagindikov, director, National Testing Centre, Ministry for Education and Science of RK:
- There were a lot of complaints about questions being not correct but in reality they were correct but prepared based on textbooks with themes which were interpreted in different ways. Therefore, we’ve conducted a contrastive analysis of all the themes in various textbooks this year in order to either amend controversial questions or eliminate them.
This year, university entrants will have a chance of substantiating their answers at the appeal commission from the moment of announcing the test results until 1 p.m. of the next day. Applications will be considered concerning the contents and technical problems related to test questions.
