M'SIAN STUDENTS IN INDONESIA ADVISED TO AVOID CONTROVERSIAL DEBATES

By Mohd Nasir Yusoff

JAKARTA, June 4 (Bernama) –- All Malaysians in Indonesia were Wednesday
advised to refrain from discussing or debating controversial issues that are
being played up by the republic's media now like the overlapping claim on
Ambalat in the Sulawesi Sea and the issue of Manohara.

Dr Junaidi Abu Bakar, the education attache at the Malaysian emmbasy here,
said notices to the effect had been issued to Malaysian student leaders at 13
universities which had many Malaysian students.

"My message to them is not to engage in debates on controversial matters
with their Indonesian counterparts. Let the respective authorities handle these
matters including the Ambalat issue and also that concerning Manohara," he told
Bernama here.

He added that they were also advised to take added precautions in their
movements and to move around in groups so as to avoid any untowards incidents.

"Should they need help, they can contact us at the embassy directly or the
local authorities," he said, adding all the students had been updated on the
contact details of embassy staff.

Parents of students needing to contact him can do so through his handphone
at +6281808811111 or e-mail him at drjunaidy_ab@yahoo.com.sg.

The Ambalat issue has been around for sometime but the Manohara case broke
out this week when the former model whose full name is Manohara Odelia Pinot,
17, returned to Indonesia on Sunday and claimed that her husband Tengku
Temenggong Muhammad Fakhry of Kelantan had allegedly abused her.
