M'SIAN PM TO OPEN COMMONWEALTH EDUCATION MINISTERS CONFERENCE




PUTRAJAYA, June 4 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak
is scheduled to open the 17th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers
(17CCEM) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on June 16.

Education Ministry deputy secretary-general (management) Kamaruzzaman
Mohd Noor said 53 countries would attend the five-day conference starting June
15 with the theme "Commonwealth: Towards and Beyond Global Goals and Targets".
He said for the first time, there would be a vice-chancellor forum along
with youth, teachers and stakeholders forums.

Malaysia will showcase a homestay programme in Melaka for the youth forum
where participants could sample the rich Malay, Chinese, Indian, Baba and
Portuguese cultures, he added.

Kamaruzzaman said three projects from Malaysia were among nine entries that
qualified for the finals of the Commonwealth Education Good Practice Awards.

The projects were submitted by Sekolah Kebangsaan Ulu Labai, Sekolah
Kebangsaan Ba Kelalan, both from Sarawak, and the Sabah Education Department.

The prizes will be presented by Commonwealth secretary-general Kamalesh
Sharma at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre on June 16.

An education exhibition will be held from June 15-18 in conjunction with the
triennial conference. The opening hours is from 9am to 5.30pm and entrance is
free.
