AIRASIA'S CHIEF IN GOOD HEALTH, DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITAL
KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 (Bernama) -- AirAsia's group chief executive officer
Tony Fernandes was discharged today from the Sunway Medical Centre
after having been admitted late Monday.
He went to the hospital for further checks after having fainted at the
low-cost carrier terminal (LCCT) in Sepang upon returning from Penang.
"I feel recharged and reinvigorated. I am looking forward to getting back to
work and also balancing work with a healthy lifestyle," Fernandes said in a
statement Thursday.
"I thank everyone for their well wishes and support. The three nights at the
hospital gave me sufficient rest and made me realise the value of a good diet,"
he said.
A medical report by Dr Suren Thuraisingham, consultant cardiologist at the
Sunway Medical Centre, said Fernandes was admitted to the hospital on June 1,
2009, with a history of chronic partly treated sinusitis, cough and dehydration.
He was treated with intravenous re-hydration, antibiotics and enforced bed
rest for three days before being allowed to be discharged.
The report said Fernandes responded well to treatment and has been advised
to extend his period of rest at home before returning to work.
Having undergone a thorough medical check-up a few months earlier, the
report said that Fernandes was found to be in excellent health with no evidence
of heart disease, hypertension or diabetes.
"From the general health and cardiovascular background, he is well and does
not need any medication or specific management," it said.
