NIHR highlights Bahrain's achievements on International Day for Older Persons

Manama, Oct. 10 (BNA): National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) participated in "Older Persons in the Arab world: Current reality and prospects for protection and empowerment" virtual dialogue. The dialogue was organized by the UN Human Rights Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (ROMENA) and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) as part of the celebration of the International Day for Older Persons. The steps taken by the Kingdom to protect and promote the rights of the elderly were highlighted, including the national legislation that protects the rights of the elderly, and the development of national strategies, plans and initiatives that have contributed to improving the quality of life of the elderly and their effective and continuous participation in society. Bahrain's efforts in raising awareness of the rights of older persons and presenting the reality of the elderly in the Kingdom and the services and facilities provided to them were also emphasized. The dialogue was attended by experts in aging, representatives of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), national human rights institutions, trade unions and civil society institutions in the Arab world.
