Bahrain attends 9th meeting of GCC Standing Committee for Statistical Work

Jeddah, Oct. 15 (BNA): Information and e-Government Authority (iGA) Chief Executive, Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, led the kingdom’s delegation to the 9th meeting of the GCC Statistical Centre’s (GCC-Stat) Standing Committee on Statistical Work, held here. The meeting was attended by heads of GCC statistical organisations, as well as iGA Director of Population and Demographic Statistics, Duaa Sultan Alharban. Dr. Fahad bin Abdullah Al-Dossari, President of Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT), Chairman of the committee welcomed the attendees, wishing the committee the best in achieving its objectives. The committee praised the dynamic achievements in supporting GCC statistical works in line with the objectives of Gulf countries’ economic and social policies. Other topics been discussed included following up on the committee’s recommendations from the previous meeting and studying the importance of improving statistician knowledge and skills through technical and professional courses that reinforce their capabilities and knowledge sharing. The committee also reviewed the progress made in studying the implementation od the GCC Supreme Council’s resolutions between 1981 and 2019 and their impact on the real ground in the main 10 areas that cover the common Gulf market, with the iGA confirming that the project had been completed in Bahrain. Al Qaed also attended the event’s accompanying workshops, which emphasized the importance of exchanging statistical data between member states and the need to implement a statistical strategy. The GCC Standing Committee on Statistical Work’s periodic meetings aim to enhance cooperation between the GCC statistical organisations and implement methods of achieving joint visions and strategies with the help of statistical data. The committee makes recommendations that strengthen the joint efforts of the GCC member states in bolstering their statistical capabilities and organizations.
