Shaikha Haya bint Rashid attends UNGA Presidents’ Council meeting

New York, Oct. 22 (BNA): The President of the UN General Assembly’s 61st session, Shaikha Haya bint Rashid Al Khalifa, attended the Council of Presidents of the UN General Assembly meeting at the UN headquarters in New York, at the invitation of the current UNGA President. During the meeting, Hong Sang-soo was re-elected as Chairman of the Board, and Jan Kavan was elected as Vice-Chairman. They also discussed the importance of strengthening the role of UNGA and utilizing its expertise for the benefit of countries, especially through resolutions that would establish international peace and security, by using the expertise and experience of former presidents as advisors to support the work of the General Assembly. They also affirmed the importance of applying and adhering to the principles of human rights, in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter.
