GCC delegation visits DANAT

Manama, Nov. 6 (BNA): A Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) delegation visited the Bahrain Institute for Pearls and Gemstones (DANAT) where they were.briefed on the methods used to evaluate and value pearls, jewelry, gemstones, and precious metals. The institute honed cutting-edge techniques and adopted the best international practices as the first laboratory and educational research Centre of its kind in the region. The visiting delegation toured the DANAT campus while experts explained the Institute's ongoing programs to enhance the reputation of the Kingdom as a leading Centre of expertise in the field of pearls and gemstones. Representatives of the Institute also underscored the ongoing initiatives aimed at consolidating the Bahraini pearl sector, in line with the national plan to revive the pearl industry in Bahrain. The delegation was shown the Institute's latest inspection and evaluation devices and the certification methodology used for the classification of jewelry and gemstones. Certificates will ensure that customers can be certain of the provenance and quality of pearls and stones, and of the educational courses on offer for those wishing to become jewelry and gemstone specialists. The Institute aims to become a driver of the national economy of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The members of the delegation noted their admiration for Bahrain’s development as a pioneering and internationally respected institute and its long and distinctive history in the extraction of natural pearls.
