S. Korea, Mexico set for high-level policy coordination meeting

By Lee Chi-dong
SEOUL, June 8 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and Mexico will hold a high-level
diplomatic policy meeting in Mexico City on Monday (local time), Seoul's foreign
ministry said.
The consultations between Vice Foreign Minister Kwon Jong-rak and his Mexican
counterpart Lourdes Aranda Vezaury will focus on countermeasures against North
Korea's latest nuclear test and missile launches and bilateral cooperation
related to the spread of the new H1N1 strain of influenza A, it added.
"Also to be discussed are ways for substantial cooperation to be made between the
two nations on a range of bilateral and global issues," the ministry said.
Kwon also plans to pay a courtesy call on Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia
Espinosa Cantellanos, it said.
Mexico is viewed as an advance base for South Korean firms seeking to do business
in Latin America. Two-way trade volume reaches roughly US$10 billion per year,
and Mexico is South Korea's 19th largest trading partner, according to the
ministry.
