MALAYSIA TO HOST ITF CONFERENCE FOR THE FIRST TIME
PETALING JAYA (Malaysia), June 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will for the first
time host the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) conference to
discuss issues ranging from climate change and transportation to the global
economic crisis and strengthening of unions in the sector.
The Malaysian chapter of the ITF has laid out an elaborate programme for
the 400 participants from 50 countries attending the conference on June 16-18.
Malaysian ITF council secretary Zainal Rampak told Bernama Monday that
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had been invited to open the conference.
Zainal, who is also chairman of the ITF Asia Pacific region, said the
conference was considered important as it would also gather for the first time
the youth from the region for training in the transport sector.
The quadrennial conference was last held in New Delhi, India, in 2005.
