Hanwha Group weighs name change of Korea Life Insurance
SEOUL, June 8 (Yonhap) -- Hanwha Group, South Korea's ninth-largest family-run
conglomerate, is considering changing the name of its life insurance unit, Korea
Life Insurance Co., industry sources said Monday.
Hanwha is mulling changing the name of Korea Life Insurance to Hanwha Life
Insurance, believing a name change is necessary to harmonize its corporate image
with other group subsidiaries, the sources said.
In 2002, a consortium led by Hanwha bought a 51-percent stake in Korea life
Insurance, the country's second-largest life insurer, from the state-run Korea
Deposit Insurance Corp. (KDIC).
Hanwha plans to conduct in-house and outside surveys on the name change and
consult with KDIC, a major shareholder of Korea Life Insurance, this month, they
said.
