DMB handset sales in S. Korea top 20 mln units

SEOUL, June 8 (Yonhap) -- The sales of digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB)
handsets in South Korea topped 20 million units as of the end of May, a trade
association said Monday.
The Terrestrial-DMB Special Committee estimated more than 20 million units of DMB
handsets, including mobile phones, were sold in South Korea as of the end of
March.
According to the committee, more than 1.2 million units of handsets were
estimated to have sold since the end of March, when a total of 18.7 million DMB
handsets were sold.
DMB allows people to view TV programs on portable handsets.
South Korea started the world's first DMB service in 2005, which is operated
through terrestrial or fee-based satellite transmission.
