President Lee calls for more corporate investment
SEOUL, June 9 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Myung-bak called Tuesday for increased
corporate investment to help create jobs, saying the recovery of the country's
troubled economy will depend on spending growth in the second half of the year.
The president said there were signs of an economic recovery, but that it will
take more time before the improvements can be felt in the market.
"The economy will enter a real recovery phase only if businesses invest more
actively in the latter half of this year," the president was quoted as saying in
a weekly Cabinet meeting.
"Even if there are signs of a recovery, the government must tighten its grip and
step up its efforts to create jobs because it will take time before the improving
conditions can be felt by ordinary citizens," the president said, according to
his spokesman Lee Dong-kwan.
