MALAYSIA, SINGAPORE FORGE COOPERATION IN INFORMATION, CULTURE

KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Singapore will forge closer
bilateral cooperation in the information, communications and cultural fields.

Information, Communications and Culture Minister Dr Rais Yatim said the
cooperation would entail promoting interaction and mutual understanding between
the younger generation of both countries.

For a start, an entertainment and cultural event involving youths from both
countries may be held in Johor Baharu, he told reporters after receiving acting
Singapore Information, Communications and The Arts Minister Lui Tuck Yew here
Tuesday.

A similar event could be held in Singapore after that, he said adding that
the cooperation shall cover various areas of mutual benefit.

He said the entertainment and cultural show could foster ties in the fields
of arts and culture between Malaysia and Singapore.

Rais said a news exchange programme between Malaysia's national broadcasting
station, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), and Mediacorp would be worked out
especially on business news.
