Foreign Minister Receives An Official Invitation To Visit Georgia

Baghdad / NINA / - Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, received an official invitation to visit Georgia in the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated today, Monday, that "Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met the non-resident Ambassador of Georgia to Iraq, Zaza Kandelak, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building, and discussed with him the bilateral relations between Baghdad and Tbilisi, and ways to open new horizons for cooperation to serve the interests of the two friendly countries." Hussein expressed his thanks to the Georgian government for providing support to the Iraqi government, noting that the Iraqi government has a real desire to develop relations between the two countries. The minister also discussed with the Georgian ambassador the problems facing the Iraqis, including obtaining entry visas for citizens wishing to visit Georgia. He demanded that solutions be found to facilitate the granting of visa to them. For his part, the Georgian ambassador pointed out the importance of developing relations between Iraq and Georgia, especially after the formation of the new government, stressing that his visit to Iraq and his meeting with a number of Iraqi officials will have a great impact on developing and strengthening relations between the two countries in various fields, especially political and security. The Georgian ambassador expressed his country's desire to open two honorary consulates in Erbil and Babylon, after completing the official approvals, due to the presence of a Georgian community in Iraq, specifically in Dohuk Governorate, with approximately 3,000 Georgian citizens, adding: "Georgia has the desire to open an embassy in Baghdad during the coming period.” The Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed Iraq's desire to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, and promised to study the issue of opening honorary consulates. / End
