Three-day chess tournament set to start on Thursday

Manama, Dec.14 (BNA): A chess competition will open tomorrow (December 15), amid festivities marking the Kingdom of Bahrain’s celebration of the National Days, in commemoration of the establishment of the modern Bahraini State as an Arab and Muslim state, founded by Ahmed Al Fateh in 1783, and the anniversary of His Majesty the King’s Accession to the Throne. Around 400 chess players from Bahrain and abroad are expected to take part in the three-day tournament, organized by Bahrain Chess Club (BCC) in cooperation with Al Orooba Club and Arjun’s Chess Academy Bahrain. More than 45 prizes have been allocated to be distributed to winners in different categories, which include amateurs, kids and professionals. BCC Chairman Dr. Khalid Al Awadhi extended congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bing Isa Al Khalifa on this occasion. He also congratulated His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He also hailed the dedicated efforts made by His Majesty the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) First Deputy Chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
