Council of Representatives Bureau rejects European Parliament Resolution

Manama, Dec.18 (BNA): The Council of Representatives Bureau strongly condemned the resolution issued by the European Parliament regarding human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Chaired by Speaker Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, the panel, which convened for its third meeting, said that the resolution is based on falsified and inaccurate information disseminated by those making desperate attempts that seek to damage the reputation of Bahrain and to gain the support of parties willing to accept one-sided and ill-intentioned narratives. Baseless information and fake news, which have been constantly published and promoted by entities and people, in order to distort facts, practice duplicity and misleading, sedition and incitement, and harm the reputation of Bahrain. It deeply deeply regretted the European Parliament' reliance drifting one-sided reports without communicating with the representatives of the Bahraini people and the official and human rights authorities in the Kingdom to clarify the facts and expose the fallacies. “Such decisions based on inaccurate information and disregard of facts a harm, relations common interests, and violate of the principles and values of human rights, which are among the firm constants in Bahrain”, it said. . In a statement, the Council of Representatives Bureau stressed the importance of respecting the law in every country, and not interfering in internal affairs, in a manner that contradicts international and parliamentary foundations and rules. It backed the statement which was issued by the Foreign ministry regarding Bahraini citizen Abdulhadi Al Khawaja, as well as the court verdicts regarding the charges levelled against him. These include treason, attempting to overthrow the constitutional system of government, communicating with foreign countries to carry out hostile acts against the Kingdom, establishing and managing an illegal association to carry out terrorist and subversive acts. The Bureau statement stressed Bahrain’s human rights strides and development, full commitment to the principles of human rights and international standards.
