SET ASIDE MATTERS DETRIMENTAL TO MALAYSIA-SINGAPORE RELATIONS
KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Singapore should set aside
matters which could be detrimental to bilateral ties to ensure economic and
political relations between both countries remain stable.
Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said that based on the latest
developments in the economic and political landscapes in both countries, there
was a need to re-look at bilateral relations.
"This is important because an understanding which is based on sincerity and
honesty is the basis to ensure relations between both countries remain intact,"
he told reporters after an hour-long meeting with Singapore Minister Mentor Lee
Kuan Yew here Wednesday.
Also present at the meeting were Defence Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and
Rural and Regional Development Minister Shafie Apdal.
"Hopefully, through this meeting, we can get some insights into Lee's views
and experience in building a stable country," he added.
Meanwhile, Dr Ahmad Zahid said the meeting with Lee would boost ties between
leaders of both countries.
"We hope our friends in Singapore will give a similar response when we go
there," he added.
Lee, who arrived in the country on Monday, is on an eight-day visit in
Malaysia.
