Industrial Production Index Decreases by 6.4 Percent in December

 
 
Doha, February 21 (QNA) - The industrial production index in the country recorded 91.1 points in December, 2022, down by 6.4 percent compared to the previous month (November 2022), and by 8.5 percent on an annual basis compared to the same month in 2021.
The index, which is issued by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA), reflects the details of the growth of its various industrial economic sectors, namely mining, with a relative importance of 82.46 percent, the manufacturing industry with a relative importance of 15.85 percent, electricity with a relative importance of 1.16 percent, and water with a relative importance of 0.53 percent.
The data of the Planning and Statistics Authority issued Tuesday showed a decrease in the index of the mining sector by 7.7 percent last December compared to the previous month, due to the decrease in the quantities produced in the extraction of crude oil and natural gas by the same rate, and the decrease in the group of other activities for mining and quarrying by a 1.9 percent. Compared to the same month of 2021, a decrease in this sector is observed by 11.1 percent.
The manufacturing sector recorded a decrease of 1.1 percent in December 2022, compared to the previous month, and this occurred as a result of a decrease in production in the groups of food products industry by 4.1 percent, followed by the chemicals and chemical products industry by 3.2 percent, the beverage industry by 2.1 percent, and the manufacturing of rubber and plastics products by 1 percent.
As for the increase, it was recorded in the manufacture of cement and other non-metallic mineral products by 3.6 percent, the manufacture of base metals by 3 percent, the printing and reproduction of recorded media by 1.9 percent, and the manufacture of refined petroleum products by 1.2 percent.
On the other hand, in the same sector, and in terms of annual change, a decrease of 3.1 percent was observed compared to the same period in 2021, due to a decrease in production in the cement industry and other non-metallic mineral products by 16.3 percent, and the base metals industry by 11.3 percent, the group of printing and reproduction of recorded media by 9.1 percent, the manufacture of rubber and plastic products by 2.6 percent, and the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products by 0.9 percent.
As for the increase, it was recorded in the beverage industry by 20.4 percent, the food products industry by 6.2 percent, and the refined petroleum products industry by 5.2 percent.
In the electricity, gas and steam supply sector, a decrease in production between December 2022 and the previous month was observed by 32.4 percent, and when compared with December 2021, the increase was 25.3 percent.
For the water supply sector, when comparing December 2022 with the previous month, an increase in production was observed by 4.3 percent, and when compared with the corresponding month of 2021, the increase was 69.2 percent. (QNA)
