Government approves more 10,000 ha to Mitr Lao Sugar

(KPL) Lao National Land Management Authority has approved 10,000 ha of land concession for Mitr Lao Sugar Company to grow the sugarcane in Savannakhet and Khammuane provinces.
An agreement of concession land was signed in Vientiane on 9 June by Vice President of National Land Management Authority, Dr. Akom Tunalom and Director General of Mitr Lao Sugar Company, Mr. Bantheung Wongkulsonkrit.
The government granted 40 years of rent to the company for cultivating sugarcane. The company expected that production capacity of 75 tonnes of sugarcane per hectare.
This year, there will be 400,000 tonnes of sugarcane supply to the company and its production is 44,000 tonnes of sugar, said Mr. Bantheung.
The company plans to purchase sugarcanes from growers at 150,000 kip a tonne.
Mr. Bantheung added that the company sold almost 24,000 tonnes of sugar the European markets and 1,000 tonnes to the domestic markets, since established the company.
He expected that this year the company will annually produce 500,000 tonnes of sugar or 6,000 tonnes a day.
