S. Korea sets up consultative body on global meetings
SEOUL, June 12 (Yonhap) - South Korea's top financial and economic policymakers have agreed to consult closely on pending issues ahead of major international meetings in order to ensure a unified position, officials said Friday.
The Ministry of Strategy and Finance said that it has formed a consultative body
where chiefs of the nation's economic and financial policymaking bodies will
exchange opinions and ideas in setting agendas for upcoming international
meetings.
The consultative body will be attended by Finance Minister Yoon Jeung-hyun, Chin
Dong-soo, chairman of the Financial Services Commission and Lee Seong-tae,
governor of the Bank of Korea, the nation's central bank, the ministry said.
The move comes as South Korea is emerging as a key member in the global community
after having recently joined major international meetings including the Financial
Stability Board and Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. It is also
co-chairing the gathering of Group of 20 advanced and emerging countries.
The consultative body will provide a chance for the policymakers not just to form
a unified government position on global economic and financial issues but also to
increase consultation on domestic issues, the ministry said.
