S. Korean kidnapped in Yemen along with 8 others: report

SEOUL, June 14 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean woman has been kidnapped by Islamic
militants in Yemen along with eight other foreigners, the AFP reported Sunday,
quoting an unidentified official cited by Yemen's defense ministry.

"Nine foreigners, including seven Germans, a British engineer and a South Korean
woman teacher, have been kidnapped by Shiite rebels in northern Yemen," the
report said.
An official at the South Korean foreign ministry said Seoul was still working to
confirm the report, adding no missing persons report has been filed with its
embassy in Yemen.
"The embassy is working with the diplomatic missions of Germany and Britain to
confirm the case, and is also working closely with local police to learn more
about the case," an official at Seoul's presidential office said, asking not to
be identified.
The AFP report said the hostages belong to an international aid organization that
has been working at a hospital in the town of Saada.
Four South Korean tourists were killed and three others were injured in Yemen in
March following a terrorist bomb attack in the historic city of Shibam, about 90
kilometers east of the Yemeni capital, Sanna.
The South Korean foreign ministry had placed a travel warning on Yemen shortly
after the terrorist attack in March that prohibits South Koreans from traveling
to the country's terror-prone areas. The warning is still in effect.
