Ambassador to Washington participates in launch of Women's Entrepreneurship Report in MENA

Washington, Apr. 12 (BNA): Bahrain's Ambassador to the United States, Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, attended a discussion session on the development of women's projects in MENA countries.
The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) cooperated with the Wilson Center to launch a report on women entrepreneurship in the countries of the Middle East and North Africa in general and Bahrain, Lebanon and Tunisia in particular.
The study relied on facts and data from a variety of sources, ranging from national through the contribution of SCW in the Kingdom to regional and international ones. They were studied and analyzed to identify the challenges facing women in the region and the positive developments in the field of supporting women, most notably in the education sector.
The report commended the role of the second national plan of the SCW, led by the Wife of His Majesty the King and SCW President Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, for the advancement of Bahraini women from 2013-2022, and focusing on promoting entrepreneurship, career opportunities, and financial independence for women.
The report highlighted education as an element of the Bahraini Economic Vision 2030, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, through which the government seeks to improve its human capital through education and training.
The roles of Bahraini women in society have grown in terms of professions and entrepreneurship, which they also have gained their rights through gender equality and equal opportunities over the years.
The report also referred to the leadership of Bahrain in the advancement of women in the Arab Gulf region, and its signing of the Convention on Discrimination (in Employment and Occupation) in 2000, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women in 2002, and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights in 2006, and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in 2007.
The ambassador said that Bahrain adopts equal treatment for all in light of the development march of His Majesty the King.
The Chairman of the Equal Opportunities Committee at the Ministry of Finance and National Economy, Dr. Faisal Hammad, participated in the discussion, where he mentioned that the Equal Opportunities Committee is not only dedicated to the Ministry of Finance and National Economy, but rather in all government sectors and some of the private sectors, confirming that the percentage of women in the workforce has increased.
Dr. Hammad noted that the committee's policies are in line with the approach of equal gender in equal opportunities and equal wages.
