THIRD BRIDGE, SEVERAL MATTERS HAVE TO BE LOOKED INTO, SAYS MINISTER




MELAKA (Malaysia), June 15 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is looking into several
matters, including cost, viability and long term effects, before making any
decision on the proposed third bridge linking Malaysia and Singapore, Minister
in the Prime Minister's Department Nor Mohamed Yakcop.

"We will have further discussions (with Singapore) on several issues," he
told reporters after opening the Melaka International School here Sundat.

He said this in response to a statement by Prime Minister Najib
Tun Razak, who met Singapore Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew in Putrajaya several
days ago, that Singapore was keen to build a third bridge with Malaysia.

Nor Mohamed said a joint committee between Malaysia and Singapore had been
formed to look into the various aspects involved in the proposed third bridge
project.

In another development, Nor Mohamed said the planned new economic model for
the country would continue to give priority to education to produce human
capital capable of developing the nation.

He said through education, Malaysia had developed rapidly and that the
number of poor people had also dropped.
