AIR QUALITY IMPROVES FURTHER, VISIBILITY AT MORE THAN 5KM





KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 (Bernama) -- Isolated showers albeit for only
short durations helped douse the haze and improve visibility in most areas of
the country.

Generally, the visibility range recorded for most areas was more than 5km,
said a Malaysian Meteorological Department (MMD) spokesperson.

Air quality in the most critical areas such as Port Klang, Cheras and Shah
Alam have also improved significantly, with the Air Pollutants Index (API)
readings at between the healthy and moderate level.

The API readings posted in the Department of Environment's (DoE)
website as at 5 pm, showed it was 67 for Port Klang compared. On Saturday it was

89.

The APIs for Putrajaya, Cheras, Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya were 65, 63, 57
and 56 respectively.

However, air quality in Miri deteriorated to 76 from 69 yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Asean Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC) in Singapore
reported that there were 13 hotspots detected in Malaysia -- seven in Peninsular
Malaysia and five in Sarawak, while Sabah has no hotspot detected.

The centre also reported 99 hotspots in Sumatra and 12 in Kalimantan,
Indonesia.
