S. Korean woman kidnapped in Yemen probably dead: official

SEOUL, June 15 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean woman who was allegedly kidnapped with
eight others from Germany and Britain in Yemen last week appears to have died, an
official at South Korea's foreign ministry said Monday.
The 34-year-old woman, identified only by her surname of Eom, and the eight
Europeans were believed to be kidnapped by a group of insurgents last Friday when
they went out for a picnic in the province of Saada, about 200 km north of the
Yemeni capital, Sanna. The nine belonged to an international relief group that
has been working at a hospital in Saada.
Wire reports dispatched from Yemen said all of the nine have been found dead.
"We have confirmed through the South Korean Embassy in Yemen that a body presumed
to be a South Korean national has been found along with two other murdered
bodies," said the ministry official on condition of anonymity.
"We're now in the process of finally confirming the identity of the body."
