Aussie Josiah Edwards Wins Saujana-100plus Junior Championships

SUBANG (Malaysia) June 2 (Bernama) -- Young Australian golfer Josiah Edwards emerged as the champion in the inaugural Saujana-100PLUS Junior Championship at the Bunga Raya Course of the Saujana Golf & Country Club today.

After leading throughout the three-day competition, the 16 year old golfer carded a 71 today for a 217 total to win by two strokes over Daichi Hayashi, a 13 year old from China, who carded a 69 today for a three-day total of 219.

Local talent Nathan Wong and Nor Haqeim Hadi took third and fourth spots respectively.

Meanwhile, the girls category saw a dramatic tussle between leader Wang Xin Yao at 146 and Isabella Yan from China who was four strokes drift at 150. The two players however, ended play on even 220, and went into a playoff.

After a playoff, Isabella claimed her first title for the year while national golfer Xin Yao, who recently finished eighth in the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Junior Championships in Manila, settled for second place.

Nur Batrisya Balqis, Tan Ying Ying and Amanda Gan were tied for third spot on 228.

The Saujana-100PLUS Junior Championship golf tournament, which is a R&A certified tournament is open to male and female junior players with a handicap of 12.8 and below.
