ASIAN ARCHERY GRAND PRIX TO GO ON DESPITE H1N1 THREAT

KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 (Bernama)-- The National Archery Association of
Malaysia (NAAM) will not drop its plans to host the 3rd Asian Grand Prix archery
championships despite the Influenza A H1N1 threat, at least for now.

NAAM secretary Abdul Hamid Hasan said the decision to continue with plans to
host the championship from July 5-12 at the Keramat sports complex, was made at
a meeting chaired by its president Abdul Khalil Abdul Mutalif at the
National Sports Council (NSC) here Tuesday.

"However, if the Health Ministry and NSC issues a directive to cancel the
event, we will be ready to abide by their decision," he told Bernama when
contacted here Tuesday.

Abdul Hamid said all countries must be aware of the situation and be ready
to accept any cancellation in the last minute, due to the H1N1 outbreak.

He said seven countries - South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Hong, Egypt, Saudi
Arabia and the Philippines - had so far confirmed their participation for the
championships.

"We are expecting 10 countries to participate in the championships as the
closing date is on June 20," he said.

Abdul Hamid said Malaysia would field six men and six women archers for the
championships.
