ENVOYS ABROAD MUST WORK TOGETHER TO PROMOTE MALAYSIA
PUTRAJAYA, June 19 (Bernama) -- The ambassadors, high Ccmmissioners and
honorary consuls must work together to meet the challenges that they are facing
in discharging their duties in promoting Malaysia and its interests abroad,
Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said Friday.
He said the ministry would continue to give support to help them carry out
their responsibilities.
"This meeting is the best opportunity for the nonorary consuls to make new
contacts, be it with officials in the ministry or other government agencies as
well as with the business community in Malaysia," he said at the opening of
the 4th Honorary Consuls meeting at the Putrajaya International Convention
Centre (PICC) here.
His speech was delivered by his deputy, senator A. Kohilan Pilay.
He said the government under Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak had
introduced a productivity concept, "1Malaysia, People First, Performance Now"
where innovation, originality and effectiveness, especially in the public
delivery system, were encouraged.
Anifah said it was the aspiration of the government for the public and the
private sectors to work together to ensure that Malaysia was successful in
overcoming the current global financial crisis.
"I believe this meeting will provide the opportunity for both sides to
exchange views and learn from each other on how to further improve the promotion
of Malaysia as a brand abroad.
"In a simple anology, you are our arms and limbs abroad and therefore your
contribution in making this meeting a success is very crucial," he said.
