Body of S. Korean woman killed in Yemen arrives in Seoul

SEOUL, June 19 (Yonhap) -- The body of a 34-year-old South Korean woman
apparently killed by kidnappers in northern Yemen was flown to her homeland
Friday, as local authorities tried to identify the kidnappers and confirm the
fate of six other hostages.
Eom Young-sun was among nine foreigners who disappeared last Friday when they
went on a group picnic in Saada, some 200 km north of the Yemeni capital, Sanna.
They seem to have been kidnapped by a group of local rebels or terrorists,
according to the Yemeni government. The bodies of Eom and two German women were
found Monday. Eom had been tutoring the children of South Korean members of an
international medical assistance organization there.
Eom's father and sister visited Yemen to bring her body back to South Korea.
Arriving at Incheon International Airport, they sobbed without answering
reporters' questions.
Her funeral will be held Sunday at a church in Suwon, her hometown just south of
Seoul.
No one has claimed responsibility for the killings, while the fates of six other
Germans and one British citizen have yet to be confirmed.
A team of one South Korean prosecutor and two police officers has been dispatched
to the Middle Eastern country to help investigate the case.
