Lee calls for efforts to fight financial crisis at WEF

SEOUL, June 19 (Yonhap) -- South Korean President Lee Myung-bak called for
continued international efforts to fight the global economic crisis Friday while
speaking to some 350 economic leaders from around the world who took part in an
international economic forum held here.
The president hosted a farewell dinner for participants from 35 countries at the
World Economic Forum (WEF), held since Thursday.
Lee's call came shortly after he and U.S. President Barack Obama agreed in their
summit talks in Washington earlier this week that the world has yet to come out
of the economic recession, and that continued coordination and aggressive efforts
are needed.
The president also called on WEF participants to increase their efforts to
develop green technology, as he has repeatedly said environmentally friendly
technology will help create a new engine of sustainable growth while helping to
fight climate change.
Established in 1971, the World Economic Forum, also known as the Davos Forum, is
held annually in Davos, while regional sessions are also held regularly outside
of the Swiss city, according to Seoul's presidential office.
