Foreign Minister: Bahrain active partner in consolidating regional and global peace and prosperity
Manama, Sept. 20 (BNA): Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the diplomatic approach led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the efforts of the government headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to support international peace, and dialogue for a safe and prosperous region and to build a better future for the world.
In his remarks on the International Day of Peace, the minister said Bahrain's foreign policy principles are underpinned by its its humanitarian and cultural heritage and its constitutional values on consolidating tolerance, justice, respect, coexistence, equality and rejecting violence, fanaticism, religious hatred, sectarianism and racism.
The International Day of Peace is marked annually on September 21. This year's theme is "Actions for Peace: Our ambition for the #Global Calls".
Dr. Al Zayani emphasised Bahrain's commitment to promoting peace and fostering diplomatic relations based on peace principles. He reiterated support for Palestinian right in having an independent state with Eastern Jerusalem as it capital, and the resolving the Palestinian issue based on the Arab Peace Initiative, the two-state solution and international resolutions.
The minister added Bahrain believed in the importance of adopting dialogue and peaceful means to reach sustainable solutions to crises in Yemen, Syria, Sudan, Libya, and Ukraine. Bahrain also aims to end the war in Ukraine to protect civilians, restore peace and avert repercussions on global food and energy security.
Dr. Al Zayani expressed the Kingdom’s support of regional integration by enhancing economic unity, joint defense, and security systems among GCC countries, and aiming to strengthen Arab joint action and Islamic solidarity. The Minister praised the signing of the Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement with the United States of America, during the visit of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to Washington, highlighting its importance in enhancing bilateral security and military integration.
The Minister also praised royal initiatives promoting tolerance and peaceful coexistence, including the Bahrain Declaration, King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence, Abraham Accords, and hosting inter-faith and cultural conferences. He noted the launch of international awards from Bahrain for peaceful coexistence, humanitarian service, women's empowerment, and youth, and called for an international convention to criminalise hate speech.
He recounted that His Majesty the King, emphasised during his reception of His Holiness the Pope, that "peace is our only path in hoping for a secure future in which harmony and stability prevail."
Dr. Al Zayani added that the Kingdom sought enhancing its role as a regional and international partner in achieving water and food security, protecting maritime navigation, energy supplies, global trade, countering extremism, reducing weapons of mass destruction risks, cybersecurity, empowering women, and youth, and promoting peace, tolerance, and humanitarian solidarity.
The Minister affirmed the ministry's commitment, as well as the diplomatic and consular missions of the Kingdom of Bahrain, to the diplomatic vision of His Majesty the King, with the support of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister.
The ministry is committed to a secure, stable, and prosperous environment for the Kingdom, prioritizing the National Plan for Human Rights (2022-2026) and promoting tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and international peace and security for sustainable development, the minister concludeda.
