Workshop on the integration of Laos into ASEAN opportunities and challenges

(KPL) The workshop on “the Integration of Laos into ASEAN Opportunities and Challenges” was held on 16-17 June 2009 at the Riveria hotel, Khammouane province under the chairmanship of Mr. Alounkeo Kittihoun, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and ASEAN-Laos SOM Leader.
The objective of this workshop is to disseminate the outcome of the 14th ASEAN Summit held after the entry into force of the ASEAN Charter on 15 December 2008, the progress of the establishment of the Committee of the Permanent Representative (CPR), the establishment of the three new ASEAN Community Councils, the drafting of Terms of Reference (TOR) of the ASEAN Human Right body and other issues related to the ASEAN-Laos National Secretariat.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Alounkeo Kittikhoun, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted the outcome of the 14th ASEAN Summit, at Cha-am Hua Hin, Thailand, the outcome of the ASEAN-Republic of Korea (ROK) Commemorative Summit to mark the 20th Anniversary of ASEAN-ROK relations, at Jeju Island, Republic of Korea as well as new developments in ASEAN.
