S. Korea confirms 2 new cases of Influenza A

SEOUL, June 22 (Yonhap) -- South Korean health authorities said Monday they
confirmed two additional cases of Influenza A, raising the infection toll in the
country to 117.
A 54-year-old man tested positive for the H1N1 virus after contact with his son,
who had returned from his honeymoon in the Philippines, the Ministry for Health,
Welfare and Family Affairs said.
Another patient, a 19-year-old woman, was confirmed to have been infected with
the potentially deadly disease after returning home from a week-long trip to the
United States, it said.
As of Monday, 36 South Koreans were quarantined at state-designated hospitals for
treatment, the ministry said. No deaths have been reported in South Korea.
The World Health Organization recently said a pandemic is underway, raising its
disease alert status to the highest level.
South Korea has remained relatively insulated from the virus. But as the summer
vacation season draws near, experts worry that infections could accelerate as
Koreans studying abroad in hard-hit countries such as the U.S. and Australia
return home.
According to the latest tally by the World Health Organization, 76 countries have
reported nearly 36,000 infections and over 160 deaths from the disease, mostly in
Mexico and the U.S.
