S. Korea issues travel advisory for Tehran

SEOUL, June 22 (Yonhap) -- South Korea issued a travel advisory Monday for
Tehran, urging its people to refrain from visiting the Iranian capital due to
mass street protests following the recent presidential election there.
"South Korean expatriates residing in Tehran should watch out for their own
safety," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said. "We are also advising
prospective visitors to reconsider their trips."
The ministry further said it posted its lowest-level travel warning for the rest
of Iran because of political instability in the country.
Supporters of the reformist presidential candidate Mir-Hossein Mousavi have taken
to the streets of Tehran in recent days in protest against the disputed
presidential election results.
According to the Iranian Interior Ministry, incumbent President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad won 62.63 percent of the vote in the June 12 presidential election,
with his main rival Mousavi taking 33.75 percent.
Seoul's foreign ministry, meanwhile, cautioned its citizens not to travel to five
countries -- Laos, Samoa, Suriname, Oman and Qatar -- where confirmed cases of
Influenza A have been newly reported.
