RI READY TO TRAIN PALESTINIANS

Jakarta, June 22 (ANTARA) - Indonesia has expressed readiness to train Palestinian nationals to be self-reliant when Palestine becomes an independent country.

Middle East observer at Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) Hamdan Basyar said here on Monday that the cooperation to train the Palestinian national was intended to make them self-reliant when the country becomes an independent Islamic Palestinian country.

He said the cooperation in various fields with Palestine had been conducted by the Indonesian government through the foreign affairs ministry, the two countries' embassies, and other related parties.

Hamdan Basyar said the besides the Indonesian government, Asian and African community, as well as other Islamic countries had also made the same thing to the Palestinian people and prepare them to be self-reliant in an independent country.

According to him, Indonesia had tried to help overcome Palestinian problem by giving its people skill-related trainings small and medium businesses in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Ministry's Multilateral Department spokesman Rezlan Izhar Djenie said here recently that Indonesia would continue to support Palestine's struggle to become an independent state.

Rezlan made the statement on the sidelines of a United Nations and Pacific Meeting on the Question of Palestine being held at Borobudur Hotel here June 8-9, 2009.

He said Indonesia's commitment would be implemented through its political support and an education program for Palestinian students in Indonesia.

According to Rezlan, if Palestine gained independence one day, the country would need strength in various fields, including education, government, human resources development, and infrastructure sectors.

Commenting on the existence of Israeli settlements y in Palestine at present, Rezlan said it was a challenge the Palestinian people had to face while struggling for their independence.

He said one of the forms of support Indonesia would give to Palestine was to host the United Nations and Pacific Meeting on the Question of Palestine with a number of Asia and Pacific countries.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Marty Natalegawa had ever said Indonesia adhered to a clear and straightforward stance on the Palestinian issue and the two-state concept to achieve permanent peace in the Middle East.
