WASHINGTON D.C. (A.A) - 22.06.2009 - The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) will open a representative office in Belgium, the secretary general said on Tuesday.
OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said that the organization would inaugurate an office in Brussels.
"I will meet with the foreign minister of Belgium and discuss it as soon as I proceed from Washington D.C. to Brussels," he told reporters.
Ihsanoglu also said that U.S. President Barack Obama had said during his speech in Cairo, Egypt that he wanted to have a new cooperation and open a new page with the Islam world and talked about several initiatives and projects.
"My visit to the United States is related with this," he also said.
Ihsanoglu is actually visiting the United States upon an invitation by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He met Madeleine Albright, a former secretary of state who was the foreign policy adviser to President Obama during the election campaign.
The OIC Secretary General later attended a dinner at the Turkish Embassy.
The secretary general was to meet Clinton on Monday, but the meeting was postponed to Tuesday as Clinton suffered from a broken elbow.
Ihsanoglu had a brief talk with Clinton in Cairo, and Obama in Istanbul during a reception hosted by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
