Sabbagh: Boosting cooperation between NAM countries to restore their vital role on the international arena
Kampala, SANA- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Bassam Sabbagh, stressed that the major challenges facing the countries of the Non-Aligned Movement are important and dangerous, which requires a new beginning for the Movement to strengthen cooperation between countries and regain their historic and vital role on the international scene.
Sabbagh reaffirmed, in his speech at the 19 NAM Leaders’ Summit, which is being held in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, the need to reform international institutions, including the Security Council, and to engage the movement’s members in this process.
Sabbagh pointed out that the Arab region is witnessing a new chapter of acts of aggression that “Israel” has been committing over decades against people in the occupied Arab territories, calling on the UN, particularly the Security Council, to hold its responsibilities and oblige the occupation entity to stop the killing machine against Palestinians.
Sabbagh stressed that Syria condemned in the strongest terms the barbaric Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, and the unlimited support that the American administration provides to the occupation authorities, calling on the UN particularly the Security Council – to hold its responsibilities and take action in a serious and effective manner.
” Syria renewed its support for the important step taken by the Republic of South Africa to prosecute “Israel” for the crime of genocide before the International Court of Justice, affirming its support for the Palestinian people to obtain its legitimate and inalienable rights, establish their independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, and obtain full membership in the UN” he noted.
Sabbagh added that Syria expresses its appreciation for the support of the countries of the movement for the solid right to end the Israeli occupation of the occupied Syrian Arab Golan, and to restore it completely up to the line of June 4, 1967, and rejects all Israeli measures aimed at changing its legal, geographical and demographic status as occupied Syrian territory, in a clear violation of the relevant UN resolutions, especially Resolutions (242), (338) and (497).
” The illegal, unilateral coercive measures imposed by the US and the European Union on the Syrian people have caused great human suffering, therefore Syria praises the support of the movement’s countries in demanding the immediate, complete and unconditional lifting of these inhumane measures.”Sabbagh said.
Sabbagh concluded his speech by expressing Syria’s appreciation for the Movement’s support for the Syrian State’s efforts in combating terrorism and restoring security and stability.
