SINGAPORE FIRM TO DEVELOP SEAWATER DESALINATION PLANTS IN LIBYA

SINGAPORE, June 24 (Bernama) -- Hyflux Ltd (Hyflux), a global integrated environmental solutions company listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange, Wednesday announced that it will develop two seawater desalination plants in Libya.

In a statement, the company said it had entered into a Memorandum of
Agreement (MoA) with General Desalination Company (GDC), the commercial arm
of the Libyan Ministry of Utilities.

Under the MoA, both sides would undertake to conclude negotiations and reach
agreement for the establishment of a number of joint venture companies to
develop the two plants in Tripoli and Benghazi.

The Tripoli plant will have the capacity to desalinate 500,000 cubic metres
of seawater per day, while the Benghazi plant 400,000 cubic metres per day.

The company said similar to the seawater desalination plants under current
construction by Hyflux, the plants in Libya would use Hyflux’s ultra filtration
membranes and process technology in the production of the reverse osmosis water.

It said the joint venture companies would develop the plants on a design,
build, own, operate and transfer basis.

Hyflux’s wholly-owned subsidiaries will undertake the initial engineering,
procurement and construction works for the plants.
